Luckily for her, her dream came true and after hairdressing for 20 years, she opened her own salon 13 years ago at 108 Ottawa St. N.! Originally from Toronto, Darnell was drawn to Ottawa St. N. by the variety of the street businesses, feeling that the store is able to offer so many services and by the prettiness of the Crown Point neighbourhood. Moving to Canada 30 years ago, he settled in Hamilton after visiting friends and experiencing the strong Italian community present in the city. His original location was in Eastgate for 3 years before he moved to his Main St. location for 20 years. His move to Ottawa St. N. was to be in a more visible spot as he was aware of the trendy history of the street. 26 years ago, the Oxford Mill Outlet on Ottawa Street N opened its doors. As a part of a larger chain in Ontario (with locations in Cambridge, St. Jacob's, Niagara Falls and Cookstown), the Hamilton store moved from the Stipley neighbourhood to Ottawa St. N as they wanted to be a part of the textile district. Chrystal, the store manager, says she enjoys the variety of customers that come through the store.
