Sandor Monos’ Collection

OPENING RECEPTION
THURS. NOV 24, 2022   7 – 9 PM

Earls Court Gallery is excited to present Sandor Monos’ Collection starting Thursday, November 17, 2022.

Hamilton sculptor, Sandor Monos has been a long time fixture in the arts community especially pertaining to the practice of bronze casting.

Coming to Hamilton from Hungary in 1954, Monos pursued visual arts originally in two-dimensional media, but in 1993 a local artist taught Monos about bronze casting and he was hooked. Since, Monos has explored the figure in ordinary moments that when put into the elevated art of bronze sculpture can suggest a humorous reading.

From a female figure testing a weight scale to a slouched male teen with attitude, it is impossible to not let out a giggle or laugh when viewing Monos’ sculptures. In other sculptures, Monos also captures moments of contemplation. For instance in “Grace”, a female figure sits on a stone and pulls one leg into her chest with the other outstretched while bending her head down in the suggestion of prayer.
Viewers of Sandor Monos’ Collection will see over 15 sculptures that illustrate the wide breath and superior skill he has gained over many years of working in bronze.

Sandor Monos’ Collection can be viewed in person at 215 Ottawa Street North, Hamilton. Earls Court Gallery is open Tuesday – Friday 10 am to 5 pm and Saturday 10 am to 4 pm. All artworks will be featured online upon installation.
