Opened in January 2018, Caro has grown to become a community staple and is known to be regularly featured in food blogs across the GTA. Caro meaning my dear or darling – serves up modern Italian fair at affordable prices. With a lunch, dinner and brunch menu (offered on the weekends) there is something for everyone at Caro. You can now enjoy a freshly prepared meal using seasonal, local ingredients paired with a unique cocktail on their newly expanded patio.
A few stand out menu items include the Crispy Polenta Fries – served on a bed of house prepared marinara sauce with basil aioli and gorgonzola dip, topped with fresh grated parmesan and herbs. Order as an app to share or devour them yourself, the choice is yours! The pizzas are one of the most popular menu items, if you are new to Caro, we recommend The Mushroom – truffle butter, woodland mushroom, pickled onion, arugula, mozzarella and parmesan. You can also stick with a classic family size (also available for takeout) in the Margherita or pepperoni if trying to appease fussy toddler taste buds. A good rainy day enjoy at home dish is the Short Rib Pappardelle– made with red wine braised short rib, spinach, basil, a trio of cheese, topped with garlic bread crumbs – this pasta pairs nicely with a bottle or vino, which is also available for takeout or delivery. Brunch is available Saturday and Sunday from 10AM-3PM and is only served on the patio for now. This is probably one of our favourite additions to Caro. From the Nutella Flap Jack Stack served with mascarpone, whipped cream, dark chocolate and hazelnut brittle to the classic Pancetta and Mushroom Omelette – you can’t go wrong with anything on this menu. Enjoy with a hot French press coffee or a fresh and fruity cocktail. We recommend the Caro Spritz – Aperol, sweet juice and prosecco.
Since the pandemic hit, Cory like many other small business owners had to pivot and find ways to serve the community safely and efficiently, which meant shifting his business in a way he never imagined. With takeout and delivery being the new norm, Cory came up with systems to make it work. They added and removed a few items from the menu – focusing on dishes that were transportable and easily made to go while still adhering to the quality and standards Cory and his team hold so high in the Caro kitchen. They added an online ordering system to the website and offered contactless curbside pickup and delivery. This feature is still available and can be accessed by visiting carorestaurant.com.
Cory was also faced with the unique challenge of opening a new restaurant just weeks before COVID spiked and shutdowns began. Cory opened sister restaurant Victoria’s on February 29th and closed on March 13th amidst the government sanctioned shutdowns. Located at the corner of Locke and King at 470 King Street W, Victoria’s is now re-open and serves a variety of elegant menu items from Tuesday-Saturday on their Patio.
Located at 4 Ottawa Street N; Caro is now officially open 7 days a week and the patio is seated on a first come first serve basis. Hours of operation Monday – Thursday 11:30AM-10PM Friday 11:30AM-10:30PM Saturday and Sunday 10AM-9PM (Brunch served from 10AM-3PM)
